Social Media Marketing (SMM) became a trending topic in recent times after more people started using such platforms for their businesses. 

In the past, business houses just needed to post an article and share it to increase their traffic and conversions. But things have changed now

At the current moment, with more people using such platforms and more businesses trying to boost their traffic, it has become a competitive market. Though it’s competitive, a balanced technique can bring in plenty of visitors to your page and probably increase your sales. Fair enough, but are you still confused? 

We’ve all been there! We want to know about certain things, and it just isn’t coming into our minds. But, there’s nothing to worry about, is there? 

Here we’ve tried to consider all things and decided to write about what social media marketing is. We’ll be getting back to SMM in Nepal later on. 

What is Social Media Marketing? 

Unlike Wikipedia, which defines Social Media Marketing as a “process of gaining website traffic or attention through social media sites,” we wouldn’t be doing that.

What we believe social media marketing is that it is the process of creating creative content primarily focused on consumers based on each platform like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, with the secondary focus being social shares and content engagement. 

You might be thinking, why gaining brand awareness is a secondary objective, right? Well, it’s because our focus on creating quality content makes it more humane to our visitors rather than just publishing for views. 

As Neil Patel says, Social Media Marketing is about creating quality content according to the context of each social media platform. Gaining traffic is only the result of SMM, and achieving that needs pretty good material. 

At the moment, there are over 200 globally used social media platforms, and the catch here is, every platform needs a different strategy to work. However, all socials are not usable, and hence, marketing on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Linkedin might be the best option for your business. Why? 

Facebook has over 2 billion users, with most users being millennials. This media is useful for B2C businesses to bring about brand awareness. 

Similarly, Instagram has well over 1 billion users online, and this media, too, is suitable for brand awareness. 

Another of such platforms is Twitter, with 335 billion active users. Marketing in Twitter helps B2B and B2C firms and helps in improving media relations. 

LinkedIn can also be used for marketing, as it has over 645 million users online. This platform is usually used by businesses to improve business relations and hiring processes. 

Do we have to yell how important a role YouTube plays in marketing at present? With over 1.9 billion millennials and baby boomer users, this platform is useful for B2C houses to improve brand awareness. 

There are also other social media platforms like Snapchat, Pinterest, among others, but we won’t be talking about them. 

Now, as you know what Social Media Marketing is, let’s talk about what needs to be done, the strategies to follow for effective marketing. 

Strategy for Social Media Marketing

  1. Set SMART Goals

We don’t have to tell you to first work on your company goals, do we? You should first know what your company wants before opting for social marketing. But, do remember that your goals should be smart – specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. Research your audience group

After you know what your goals are, you should move towards research. Find out about your audience, their personas, and real-world data. 

Determine the platform for marketing

After you’ve researched, you would know which social media to use. Most of the businesses currently use Facebook for marketing, but it’s totally up to you to choose. 

Create content

Now the most important part! Creating creative, clickable, and captivating content is what you need to draw in visitors. If you fail to create good content, your marketing won’t work to its optimal level. 

Track Metrics 

Finally, you’ve posted your ads, you’ve marketed your business. What now? Now, track your ads! See to the goals and check if it worked for your business.
